Our Stink Bug Control Process in Fort Myers

Our integrated pest management process begins with a detailed property assessment that considers pest activity and property conditions before we determine where treatment is appropriate. The findings help us distinguish an isolated sighting from recurring indoor activity or damage to plants that may require attention.

Based on the assessment, we can provide targeted interior treatments and perimeter defense. We select application areas with families and pets in mind instead of treating every area the same way.

Ongoing Pest Control Options

Recurring service plans are available and tailored to the property. A plan may be appropriate when these pests or other insects continue to appear, but the suitable service depends on the conditions identified during the assessment.

Same-day and 24/7 emergency pest control service is available for urgent pest problems. Response timing depends on scheduling and current demand, so contact us to confirm availability.

Identifying Stink Bug Species in Southwest Florida

The southern green stink bug is the species homeowners most commonly encounter in Florida, including Southwest Florida. It feeds on blossoms and fruit, potentially causing deformity and premature fruit drop. Activity typically peaks from October through December and again from March through April.

The brown marmorated stink bug, a serious agricultural and household pest in many colder regions, isn’t broadly established in Florida. The state has one confirmed established population in a peach orchard, so proper identification matters before assuming a brown or mottled insect is this species.

Beneficial Florida Predatory Species

Some native species are beneficial and don’t require treatment. The Florida predatory stink bug feeds mainly on plant-damaging bugs, beetles, and caterpillars. This species has no documented history of harming plants.

Color alone may not provide a reliable identification because appearance can vary by species and life stage. The insect’s shape, markings, location, and effects on nearby plants offer more useful context when deciding whether a professional assessment is warranted.

Odor & Human Health Concerns

Most species release a defensive odor when handled or crushed. They don’t bite or sting people, and there’s no documented risk of disease transmission. The main concerns are odor, recurring indoor activity, and harm to fruit and blossoms from plant-feeding species.

How to Reduce Stink Bug Activity

Insect exclusion closes the routes pests use to enter a building. Practical maintenance can reduce access and make indoor sightings easier to manage, although it may not address an established outdoor source or continuing harm to plants.

Steps that can help limit entry include:

Vacuum indoor insects: Remove them with a vacuum instead of crushing them and releasing their defensive odor.
Seal exterior gaps: Close openings around doors, windows, utility penetrations, and other potential entry points.
Repair damaged screens: Fix holes and loose edges in window and door screens.
Reduce sheltered clutter: Move wood piles and similar dry hiding places away from the structure.

Recurring indoor sightings or continuing damage to fruiting plants warrants a professional assessment. Note when and where the insects appear, and avoid crushing a specimen if identification is needed.
